The Ethereum Foundation (CRYPTO: $ETH) has scheduled a test of its Glamsterdam upgrade for Oct. 6.
The test is expected to be the final one before a future main net rollout of the upgrade that is expected to dramatically increase transaction speeds across the Ethereum blockchain.
The upgrade combines changes known as “Amsterdam” on Ethereum’s execution layer and “Gloas” on the consensus layer.
The upgrade will change how blocks are built onchain, how validators check them, and how clients handle transaction processing.
The Ethereum Foundation says that, once complete, the Glamsterdam upgrade will reduce dependence on trusted middleware for block-builder payments.
The end result should be a faster and more efficient Ethereum blockchain, according to the Foundation. The upgrade will prepare Ethereum for increased Layer-1 capacity and speed.
Glamsterdam is the biggest change to the Ethereum network in several years. The last major upgrade was “The Merge,” which occurred in 2022.
ETH is trading at $2,725 U.S. on Sept. 29.
